ISP’s Not Giving You Your Speed?
0
ISP (Internet Service Providers) for a long time now have been saying they will give you a 20MB or so connection, and not providing that, instead you will only get 30% of that if that. But recently BT and TalkTalk have been found that they are not providing what you was offered, and paying for. They was found by Mystery Shoppers testing there service, while some ISP’s are upfront about what speed you will get some just offer and don’t give. Last year providers was warned tat they must tell customer what speed they will get, instead they have still not kept to this rule. BT and TalkTalk have been accused of offering users a speed of “Up To…” not the actual speed they will receive. Many factors lead to why people get less, one is the distance you live the the Exchange Server, or hub. In 2011 ISP’s made a deal with Ofcom, to give customers an estimate on what speed they will actually receive. BT Has this to say, “We strongly support the Ofcom speed code of practice and ensure that anyone who buys BT broadband gets a personalised speed quote before they are committed to purchase,”.
“Ofcom has suggested we should make a minor change to mention the speed quote earlier in the sales conversation, which we are happy to do and will implement straight away.”
“It is vital that as the choice of broadband services expands, UK consumers get the best possible information when choosing a broadband provider,” said Claudio Pollack, Ofcom’s consumer group director.
In the US the internet providers offer’s an very good service with broadband speeds of actually getting 20MB. Over in the UK our ISP’s just has not scratched the surface to provide us with the excellent service.
Google Drive. A YEY Or NEY?
0
Google drive is the new cloud storage, with a massive 5GB of free storage. Where Dropbox only offers 2.5GB. There are things that I am not liking and think that needs updating. I believe that the icon needs more displayable pictures to show when it is syncing or not. At the moment there is just a little shadow shows on the task-bar icon that is not noticeable and needs sorting, as on Dropbox an icon turns from a solid green tick to a blue sync icon that is very easy to see it is syncing.
Also on the android application there is problems. Such as there is no feature to add a password like on the Dropbox application. Also there is no way to select automatic upload to Dropbox after you take a photo or video. And a new problem that I have found is that I cannot even open my Google Drive folder! How am I suppose to read and edit things in my Google Drive when I am outside the Home Office? Even though there servers are a lot faster to upload a 3.5GB file in 30 minuets than Dropbox that took 3 hours. So uploading is a lot quicker, space is better.
I believe that Google Drive is going to take off very quickly and they did not even shut it down publicly like on Google+. But the main part of it is working brilently it stores and keeps, like it should and I also think that Dropbox will up there free storage to over 5GB to like 6 or 7GB.

How To Save Water
4
Water is one of our most important resources, and in part of the UK now there is drought or also called an Hosepipe Ban. And the clue is in the name it means we cannot use Hosepipe to wash the car or the garden and if you don’t water your plants they will die! So one idea to up your Eco level is to buy and install a water butt. I have just bought an 100 Litre Water butt that should last about 2-3 waters of the garden. Now they don’t just connect directly to your drain pipe and fill over before you walk outside to a swimming pool they use a diverter, which is a small connector that connects to your drainpipe and if the water is not blocked up in the pipe the water will flow down the pipe and into the water butt. When the water butt is at the top the water will flow back down the pipe to the diverter and fill a little resour and flow back down your drain pipe into your normal drain. You can but bigger water butts, but if you do not have a lot of room to play with you can buy a slimline water butt, my water butt I bought is also a slimline one. As you should know rainwater is better than normal tap water that has been treated with chemicals and Chlorine and plants like it better!
iPhone 4S
2
Yesterday Apple released there new iPhone called… the iPhone 4S. There was many disappointments in the name as many people thought it was going to be called the iPhone 5. On the other hand there was many other great features that came with it. Includeing the iOS 5 with over 200+ new features in the box. The other amazing idea is the Siri, you’re own personal assistant built right in. She can text, call, move reminders and move you’re schedules for the entire day. Right from your phone. The other downside is the style of the iPhone 4S not only is the S annoying to add on the end, the iPhone 4 sounded great but now with the S on the end has just not marked up. There is not really much design difference form the iPhone 4, like there was from the iPhone 3 and 3GS the iPhone 4 was a amazing design I have ever seen on a mobile phone. The iOS 5 also does not have much look difference but there is much new difference, but it is really the same with the iPhone 4S there is not much difference on the outside, but on the inside all that changes, they now have the new A5 chip with a dual core chip, so 2 processors are faster than one, that can offer a 2x faster speed and a 7x faster and better graphics performance. The camera has been updated, it now has a more larger aperture and a new lens inside, this has made it able to take HD and sharp photo’s. Video is not out of the question neither. That is now capable of recording 1080p at 60fps. All this while still being able to save a battery life of Up to 8 hours on 3G, up to 14 hours on 2G. This is a amazing achievement for Apple. The antenna problem has also been fixed by adding a Incoming and Outgoing antenna in the top and bottom of the iPhone.
Google+ Opens Public
1
Today Google+ opened public, no more invites needed. Thats right, if you don’t yet have a Google+ account, now you can have one without asking people to send you an invite, though.
There is still invites, you do not need one to sign up. You can head on over, create an account and start to have fun with the hangouts, Circles, some people are predicting that it will take off quicker than facebook and Twitter has with over 80 Million peope registerd before it was opend publicly. Also a official Android Application has been released and a Official iOS app is on its way.
Another added feature is Hangouts, they have now released a ‘On Air’ feature that alows you to record hangouts and broadcast it so others can watch. Google also said that there is other features currently under construction where users can share their screen with others, sketchpad, and Google Docs with lots more too.
Facebook however has been watching Google+ with very close eyes. The current most popular Social Network has also been busy to catch Google+ up. Unlike the Google+ +1 button Facebook are adding a “Read,” “Listened,” and “Watched.” button to add to there like button.
It looks like both company’s are in the competition and it looks like Google+ is wining as Facebook is having to come up with its new ideas too. What will happen?
Steve Jobs Resigns
3
Yesterday Steve Jobs annouced that he is resigning as CEO of Apple INC. As being replaced with Tim Cook. Jobs stated in his resignation as follows…
“To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:
I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.
I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.
As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.
I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.
I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.
Steve”
Steve Jobs has picked the company from crawling little kids to the big adult it is today and he will be sorely missed as CEO although he has been elected to join the Chairman of the Board and has taken that place as Tim Cook is now the CEO of Apple INC. This will not be the end of Apple, they will cary on, they will fight and push and create the new and amazing technoligy, and essential gadgets that other companies will follow behind as Apple lead the way into the Tech World again. Higher, Bigger, Stronger.
How do you connect to the internet?
2
I will be going on holiday this week and needed something to be getting online rather than playing multiplayer games by myself, so I looked around found this E353 Mobile Broadband Dongle made by Three. Preloaded with 3GB od Data on a PAYG (Pay as you go) what means that if I use it up I just TopUp.
This has many great features and also runs from 3 diffrent connection options depending on where about’s you are. Including 3, 3G, and 3G+ networks, when I tested this in my house I recive 3G and a full 5 Bar signal, where I am going I am not sure what I will be getting but I have a feeling that I will recive a 5 Bar Signal from where I will be.
The lights also change as you can see from the picture the light is currently blue but can change Green, Blue and Neon. Green meening that it is connected to a 3 Network, Blue when connected to a 3G network, and Neon when connected to a 3G+ network. In my home I was connected to a 3G network. I am sure I will not use all 3G but slightly worried that I might.
Overall: 5/5. My overall look of this product I think that at the moment it looks like a great product that I can use over and over again, for when I go on holiday again in the future, I will be doing a full review on the product when I am on holiday.
Facebook wins “Worst API” award in Developers survery
0
100 developers took part in a survey which was aimed to determine which external APIs were the most difficult to integrate into developers’ projects. The winner…or rather, the loser? Facebook. Developers mentioned the Facebook API the most in terms or having bugs, poor documentation, never-ending API changes, slow response times, and other headaches.
The Google APIs were in second place, and the Twitter APIs came in third.
These three services are also the most popular among developers, so of course it’s not surprising that they are top of the list for problems as well. Facebook, Google and Twitter certainly will come in higher than, say, the Digg API, which is hardly ever seen in the wild these days.
Although it was Facebook that received the most complaints, with the developers calling it “broken”, buggy and offers very poor documentation. Twitter also received complaints, too, but it was also received the most positive comments over any other service. Complaints about Google cited APIs that had been shut down or were missing.
Here is a list of the headaches that were outlined in the survey, they included:

• Poor documentation
• OAuth
• Poor error handling
• Lack of example code
• Lack of testing environments
• Lack of standardised libraries across languages
• APIs that change/break frequently (mostly Facebook)
• Normalising data to match internal data structure
• Line between use and abuse
• Arbitrary throttling (differences between services)
• Differing standards (REST v SOAP v XML-RPC, XML v JSON v POST, versioning v not, etc.)
• Getting services to talk to a developing machine behind a firewall

Among the up-to-date Android enthusiasts Honeycomb may well be the talking point, however Google’s next update to the hugely popular operating system aims to be the hybrid between Gingerbread smartphone functionality and the awesomeness of the Honeycomb tablet, and we have just learnt of some leaked screen shots to Ice Cream Sandwich, this update is expected to come later this year.
Imaged below, the leaks show that the notification bar has been redesigned from Gingerbread and the OS features a new shiny launcher and also an app drawer. The leaked images come from the Android Police are keen to stress that they have the utmost confidence.
